The juice has four main ingredients –
- Vegetable Glycerin
- Propylene Glycol
- Flavouring
- Nicotine
Vegetable glycerin or VG or Glycerol is the clear and thick liquid used in e-juice. It is ideally derived from soybeans or palm trees, though it can also be made from less common animal fat. Vegetable glycerine in to similar to vegetable oil, as VG is soluble in water whereas the oil is insoluble. VG is considered a safe chemical for human ingestion. But note that the health effects of inhaling Glycerol or VG are still not verified. VG helps the vaper to produce the vapour due to its viscosity. The higher the VG ratio helps in producing the thicker the clouds. VG is also said to help with soft and smoother throat hit.
Propylene Glycol or PG in the vape juice is a colourless and odourless liquid. It is derived from petroleum with a sweet taste. PG is commonly used as a food additive. It helps to retain moisture and makes the food products thicker. Hence it is also considered to be safer for human ingestion.
Flavourings used in e-juices is a combination of natural and artificial chemicals that helps to mimic the taste of fruits, eatables and certain drinks. Flavouring content in the e-juice would be less than 10% of the total liquid content.
Nicotine is the ingredient that is used in vape juices and other nicotine replacement therapies such as gum, nicotine inhalers, nicotine patches, and more. It helps smokers quit cigarettes. Nicotine helps the vapers to get the smoking sensation with lesser health issues as it is not combusted like the cigarette. Nicotine is a highly addictive substance.
