Many athletes overlook the importance of vitamins because like carbs, fat, and protein, they don’t provide energy. But vitamins are crucial for maintaining the normal functioning of your body and overall health. Without vitamins, your ability to build muscle, bone strength, and health will begin to decay. Hence, it’s important to ensure that your diet offers a variety of vitamins required for your body. Especially if bodybuilding is your goal, you may need to take vitamins more seriously than an average person.

In this article, we will discuss various types of vitamins for body transformation.

What are vitamins?

Vitamins are compounds that we need to stay healthy. Each organ in our body requires different types of vitamins to support its functioning. We need to consume these vitamins through food because our body either doesn’t produce on its own or produces very little.

Vitamins are divided into two broad categories: fat-soluble vitamins and water-soluble vitamins.

Fat-soluble vitamins include A, D, E, and K. These vitamins are stored in fatty tissues and don’t require replenishment daily.

Water-soluble vitamins, on the other hand, do not stay in our bodies for long. Hence, we need to supply more water-soluble vitamins than fat-soluble ones.

Below is the list of important vitamins for body transformation and optimal health.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin, meaning it can’t be stored in our body. Hence, we need to consume it from food or supplements. Vitamin C works as an antioxidant and protects muscle cells from the damaging effects of free radicals. Fitness Coach Aditya Shrivastava says Vitamin C also increases the absorption of iron, which in turn, promotes oxygen supply in the blood. This is critical for athletes because, without adequate oxygen, performance can be reduced.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D is one of the essential vitamins for body transformation. It supports the integrity of bone and absorption of calcium and phosphorus. Calcium is needed to strengthen bone as well as improve muscle contraction. Phosphorus plays a huge role in providing energy molecules to muscle cells during contraction.

Vitamin A

You may know that vitamin A helps with vision, but it also offers many bodybuilding benefits as well. Vitamin A is important for the production of glycogen, stored energy needed for high-intensity performance. Besides that, vitamin A is also involved in the synthesis of protein which helps in muscle growth.

Biotin

Biotin is one of the incredibly useful vitamins for body transformation. It plays a crucial role in amino acid metabolism and facilitates energy production from many sources. Many athletes tend to struggle to maintain adequate biotin because of a substance found in raw eggs called Avidin. The reason is Avidin can block the production of biotin.

Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 supper the function of nervous system tissue and improve the supply of signals from the brain to muscle tissue. It is incredibly important for the effective contraction and growth of muscles. Vitamin B12 is available only in animal-based food. Those who follow a strict vegetarian diet may benefit from vitamin B12 supplementation.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that can decrease the number of free radicals in the body. It also protects the membranes of cells. Healthy cell membranes are crucial for many metabolic processes needed for muscle growth.
