Painkilling Cayenne Cream Recipe Which Is Great for Sore Muscles and Stiff Joints!
Today we’re going to show you a great homemade muscle soothing cream that can be prepared in just minutes. It’s made of ingredients you have in your kitchen or can be found easily. The main ingredient in the cream is cayenne.
Why Cayenne Works for Muscle Pain
Capsaicin, one of cayenne’s active constituents stimulates the release of something known as “substance P” in the body. Substance P is released from nerve cells and the inflammatory cells of the immune system. Substance P is most noted for its role in helping the body perceive pain and in stimulating the release of various cytokines to induce a healthy inflammatory response.
Cayenne also dilates blood vessels, which allows for more anti-inflammatory cells to make their way to the affected area. When substance P is released and subsequently depleted, as is the case when you repeatedly apply cayenne, the threshold of pain in that area increases. This is also known as pain desensitization. 1,2
What happens is the area actually feels less painful. This allows you to take some much needed steps to helping that part of the body heal. Whether it be walking, stretching, exercises or physical therapy, with the assistance of cayenne, you can help your body heal a lot sooner!
The cream is rich in ingredients which will relax your muscles and even heal some of them.
Coconut oil nourishes your skin and is a great addition to the cream thanks to its antibacterial properties. It has been known to reduce pain and possesses anti-inflammatory properties as well. Raw cocoa butter is great for the skin and contains a high amount of antioxidants that are absorbed in it.
Ginger has a long history of use in folk medicine due to its powerful anti-inflammatory and warming properties. Used as a muscle rub, it can stimulate blood flow and enables new blood to move into the area, while also bringing new immune cells and pushing the old blood with inflammatory cells to the affected area. Turmeric is a spice similar to ginger – it is added in the cream to reduce the swelling and control the body inflammation. Inflammation is good for the healing process, but the area must not be chronically inflamed.
Finally, peppermint essential oil contains menthol which soothes muscle soreness and relaxes the muscles. Peppermint provides a cooling sensation in the area and works great along the warming properties of ginger.
Besides using the cream on your muscles, you should also rest, drink plenty of water and consider turmeric capsules in order to reduce the pain further. These capsules have been shown to be as effective as NSAIDs for pain reductions.
